Estimark and Evalu-8 EHS, compared for UK contractors

UK small and medium businesses across sectors wanting an EHS platform they can switch modules on and off in, with construction as one of the markets it sells into.

• It is a UK vendor, on G-Cloud as well as selling direct, with RAMS, COSHH, contractor check-in and contractor management among its named modules.
• The core platform is sold per licence with a floor on licence count, and every module is added on top of it.
• The same per-licence structure carries its HR product, so a firm already on one is being sold the other.

A core platform priced per licence over a minimum licence count, plus a one-off set-up fee, with every module a contractor actually needs quoted rather than listed.

• Core EHS platform: £2.50 per licence a month, over a minimum of ten licences, so £25 a month is the floor.
• RAMS, COSHH, accident and incident, and audits and inspections are add-on modules and none of them carries a published price. A contractor who needs RAMS and COSHH, which is most of them, cannot price the whole thing without asking.
• A one-off set-up fee applies and no amount is published for it. Evalu-8 states that training is covered by that fee and that storage is not charged.
• The pricing page states no VAT position either way.

RAMS held as versioned documents and signed per operative, with site inductions, toolbox talks, permits to work, near miss and accident recording, and CSCS card expiry, all against the job.

• A revision is a new version rather than an edit, and a sign-off records which version that person accepted, with their drawn signature, the method, the time and the IP address.
• Toolbox talk attendance is signed on the phone, timestamped on the device rather than when the server heard about it, and hashed against the talk it was given for.
• Site inductions carry the topics covered, the inductee’s signature and an expiry date, per site or company-wide.
• Site clock-on can be gated on a valid induction, an in-date CSCS card and acceptance of the current RAMS version, set to off, warn or block per job.
• An accident report classifies which RIDDOR duty applies and dates the deadline from the accident rather than from the day somebody noticed, then chases it.
• Certification expiry covers CSCS cards, tickets and gas competence per category, fuel and premises, each with its own expiry date.

NoteHealth & Safety is included from Solo up, so RAMS, COSHH records, inductions and the accident book come with the plan rather than as separately quoted modules.

No environmental reporting, no occupational health, no general audit module, and no safety accreditation of its own.

• Estimark covers incident reporting, safety actions and investigations. It is not a full EHS platform and has neither an environmental nor an occupational health module.
• Estimark holds no safety accreditation. It is not SSIP registered, not CHAS, SafeContractor or SMAS assessed, and holds no ISO 27001, SOC 2 or Cyber Essentials. Using it does not accredit you and does not shorten an assessment. It holds the evidence an assessor asks for.
• It does not file to RIDDOR. It classifies the duty, dates the deadline and chases it, and the F2508 is still submitted by a person on hse.gov.uk.
• It does not check a CSCS card against the card scheme. Numbers and expiry dates are entered by hand, and Estimark tracks the expiry from there.
• There is no library of pre-written, professionally reviewed risk assessments. Estimark drafts and a competent person reviews.

NoteEstimark also records the CIS300 rather than filing it to HMRC, and takes no card payment on a customer’s behalf.

It handles the four obligations a UK contractor is judged on: CIS deduction, the VAT domestic reverse charge, Construction Act payment timing, and the safety records that go with them.

• CIS deducted on labour only, excluding materials, VAT and plant hire, on 6th-to-5th tax months, with HMRC verification when connected and the CIS300 recorded with both statutory declarations.
• VAT domestic reverse charge under section 55A: the statutory wording on the invoice, nil VAT, controlled per client.
• Payment applications with Construction Act dates, the pay less deadline calculated, and retention tracked to release.
• RAMS with operative sign-off, inductions, permits and a live muster roll, plus EIC, EICR, Minor Works, PAT and CP12 certificates with typed test results.

When the requirement is a full EHS platform rather than a construction safety file: environmental reporting, occupational health, and audit across a business that is not only building sites.

• A business with environmental duties beyond a site is buying ground Estimark does not cover.
• A firm that wants to buy safety modules one at a time, and nothing else, is buying something narrower than a job system.
• A firm already running its HR with the same vendor has an integration argument Estimark cannot answer.
