Environmental reporting for construction sites

Estimark’s Environmental module records site waste by type and disposal method, computes the recycling rate from the tonnages, issues waste transfer notes carrying the carrier’s registration and permit and the destination site’s permit, and tracks project carbon in tCO2e by scope and category. It is included from the Pro plan (£249/month) up.

What the Environmental module does

  • Records a daily environmental entry per job with waste generated, waste recycled, waste to landfill, water use in litres and fuel use in litres.
  • Breaks waste into nine types including concrete, timber, metal, plasterboard, soil and hazardous.
  • Records the disposal route for each waste item: recycled, landfill, reused, incinerated or other.
  • Computes the recycling rate from recycled tonnage against total tonnage.
  • Issues numbered waste transfer notes with transfer date, carrier name, carrier registration, carrier permit, destination site and destination permit.
  • Flags hazardous waste and records the EWC waste code and quantity in kilograms.
  • Tracks a project carbon footprint over a reporting period as entries with a scope, category, quantity, unit, emission factor and resulting tCO2e.

Environmental — how it works

What goes on a waste transfer note?

A waste transfer note is the legal record of a waste handover under the duty of care. Estimark’s note carries a note number, transfer date, the waste description and code, quantity in kilograms, whether it is hazardous, the carrier’s name, registration and permit, the destination site and its permit, and who signed and received it.

How does Estimark calculate a recycling rate?

From the tonnages on the environmental record: recycled kilograms as a proportion of total waste generated. Because each waste item also carries its own type and disposal route, the headline rate can be broken down by material — which is what turns a number on a report into a decision about a skip.

How is project carbon recorded?

As a carbon project against a job with a reporting period, made up of individual entries. Each entry has a scope, a category, a description, a quantity, a unit and an emission factor, and yields a tCO2e figure that rolls up to a project total.

NoteEstimark holds the emission factor on the entry — you supply the factor from your chosen dataset. It does not ship a maintained UK factor library, so keep your source documented.

Questions

Environmentalfrequently asked

Which plan includes the environmental module?

Environmental is included from Pro (£249 a month) upward and with Enterprise. On Solo or Core it can be activated individually for £15 a month.

Does Estimark produce a Site Waste Management Plan?

Estimark records the data an SWMP is built from — waste by type, disposal route, tonnage, recycling rate and the transfer notes — against each job. The plan document itself is assembled from that record.

Can I record hazardous waste separately?

Yes. Hazardous is one of the nine waste types, and a waste transfer note carries an explicit hazardous flag alongside the EWC waste code and the carrier and destination permit numbers.
